Walk 2

Rutland Cottage to Westfield Road North / Valentine Close (1.3Km / 0.8 Miles) or Westfield Road South. (1.9Km / 1.17 Miles)

Introduction by Steve Emery

The footpath sign is opposite Rutland Cottage at a slight bend in Wimblington Road. There is no off-road parking. This footpath twists and turns as you walk along the northern bank of Darcey Lode (see map), which is a meandering stream. It is on the edge of a farmer's field and appropriate footwear is advisable. The first wooden bridge on the left, links this footpath with Walk 3 providing routes to School Lane and Williams Way. When you reach the second bridge either cross the bridge for Westfield Road North or continue walking alongside Darcey Lode to reach Westfield Road South. Cross a further bridge and follow the path round to the left with a stream now on your right. The path runs alongside a working yard at West Wood Farm and on into Westfield Road South. There is some on-street parking available in Westfield Road.

Walk 3

Rutland Farm to School Lane or Williams Way. ( 1.2Km / 0.73 Miles)

Introduction by Steve Emery

The footpath sign is opposite Rutland Farm at a slight bend in Wimblington Road. There is no off-road parking. Follow the footpath straight down to an open field where you turn left. Follow this path to a right turn, through the middle of a farmer's field. Walk across a footbridge and follow the path, with a stream on your right, until you reach another bridge. Walk across the bridge to link with Walk 2 (which provides routes to Westfield Road) or turn left and follow the path for School Lane or Williams Way. Follow the path along until you reach another bridge on your right. Turn left here to enter the bottom of School Lane or walk across the bridge, turn left and walk down the path across a small field and into Williams Way. There is limited on-street parking in both School Lane and Williams Way.

Walk 4

Manea School to Manea Pit or Manea Allotments. (1.6Km / 1.0 Miles)

Introduction by Steve Emery

The footpath sign is next to Manea School in Station Road. There is on-street parking but this can be congested during weekdays at the start and end of school times. Walk down the footpath between the school and housing / field until you reach an open field. Turn right and follow the path through woodland beside a stream on your right. When you reach a single-track unmade road, turn right along the road (or carrystraight on if you wish to walk through Bearts Farm Wood using other tracks). Follow this unmade road and pass through a farm gate. The path turns to the right and leads to a farmer's yard. Before entering the yard turn left and follow the public path into open fields (*see below). At a “T” junction in the path turn right and continue to walk through the fields. Manea Pit can be seen through the foliage on your right. Turn right further down this path for Manea Pit or, alternatively, you can keep walking straight on (now no longer on a Public Footpath) to Manea Allotments. There is off-street parking at Manea Pit in a purpose built car park. A Children's Playground and public toilets can be found nearby.

(* If you decide to go through the yard and into the middle of Manea village instead, please keep dogs on leads and children close as there is farm machinery operating.)

Walk 5

Westfield Road (Fire Station) to Biggins Farm and Bridleways. (0.7Km / 0.44 Miles)

Introduction by Steve Emery

The footpath sign is next to Manea Fire Station in Westfield Road. There is onstreet parking in Westfield Road. Walk down the path between housing and the Fire Station and then straight on at a kissing gate with a stream on your left. As the stream turns to the left, the path turns right through the middle of a field. Walk across the field and follow the signs left then right and finally through a kissing gate on to Fallow Corner Drove. Turn left for the Bridleway (further down the road on the right) or turn right to walk to Westfield Road. (Caution: The watercourse routes shown on the map appear to differ from those you will actually experience on this walk.)
